William E Rees

Born in England in 1933, William E Rees is a painter and sculptor.

The artist produces figurative, landscape and still life paintings alongside bronze sculpture and is well collected across Europe, the UK and Australia. In describing his career the artist states, "I consider myself a very fortunate person because from boyhood to the present, a few decades on, I have had the desire to express myself. In pursuit of one's aspirations, the ambition is the desire to capture the elusive aesthetic.”

Notable to an Australian context, William won the commission to sculpt sixteen animals for the Botany Council; life-sized sculptures of an elephant, camels, bear, gorillas, tigers and horses’ heads. He also took part in a venture with the Perth Mint to produce a range of sculptures for sale through their outlets. He has won several portrait commissions in bronze, including a commission to produce two life-size, rearing horses cast in bronze for HM the Sultan of Brunei, and has been awarded the BEM by the Queen.

Christopher Day Fine Art represented him in Sydney, Ron Gomboc of the Gomboc Gallery Perth and now he is being represented by Alex Thom at Thomgallery Byron Bay.
